2009 Central Nebraska Youth Summit

The 2009 youth summit date has been set for Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Health and Sports Center.  

Tentative Schedule:
9:00 a.m. -- Registration at the West Entrance
9:00 a.m. -- Breakfast on the Gym Floor
9:30 a.m. -- Welcome & Buffalo County Youth Advisory Board Presentation
10:00 a.m. -- Got A.L.O.H.A. by Kevin Wanzer, keynote speaker
11:15 a.m. -- Break, Games, Booths 
12:00 p.m. -- Lunch & Entertainment
1:00 p.m. -- Dynamite Drumming Session
1:30 p.m. -- Breakout Sessions
          Choose one of the following breakouts:
         
          Interactive Media Session -- Empower yourself to utilize your creativity through the use of media and promotion. Create and design a media concept to use in your community.
          Power to Change -- "Youth hold the power to change the world." Learn how to find your hidden talents to create change. Youth will learn how to change the world through service learning and service projects using hands-on activities.
          Are You a Change Agent? -- Learn how to create change in the world. Youth will learn what it takes to be a change agent, how to create change and the barriers to creating change in the world and their community.
2:00 p.m. -- Ice Cream Break, Games, Booths
2:30 p.m. -- Raccoon Circles -- Leadership and Team Building Activities
3:30 p.m. -- Activism Activities -- Paint your own
t-shirts, screen painting, make your own buttons, photo booth
4:00 p.m. -- Breakout Sessions
          Choose one of the following breakouts:
          Interactive Media Session
          Power to Change
          Are You a Change Agent?
4:30 p.m. -- Break
4:45 p.m. -- Wrap-Up Session -- Last chance for games, crafts, activism activities, exhibit booths until 6:15 p.m.

7:00 p.m. -- Annual Youth Award Banquet
9:00-11:00 p.m. -- Youth Dance
The summit is designed to teach youth leadership, community involvement, and youth engagement. 
Youth will learn how to solve youth issues using youth ideas, and the importance of youth advocacy. During the course of the event youth will develop an action plan to take back to each of their respective communities to encourage youth engagement, or a specific community service project they have designed.
